41" overall, 28.5" blade, 10.75" handle. Hand forged HRC55 high carbon steel blade with Hi (blood groove). Authentic hamon (temper line) using ancient Japanese clay solution, with quench and heat treated technique (see further explanation of this technique below). Tsuka (handle) wrapped with Japanese purpose silk over authentic ray skin. Crane design copper tsuba (guard). Black lacquer finish with genuine mother of pearl bamboo inlay. Includes satin sword bag and cleaning kit. Japanese clay tempering technique-This process involves hand wrapping portions of the blade in clay during the tempering process and leaving other parts uncovered. This enables the swordsmith to achieve a finished blade in which the cutting edge of the blade is hardened to enable it to take and hold an edge, while the back portion of the blade remains softer so that it is less brittle and stronger.
