Genuine Orthoceras Fossil in Display Box

Genuine Orthoceras polished fossil. Each fossil is unique, therefore the size varies, the average size is 3"-3.5" long. Each fossil comes packed in a plastic display/storage fox with foam insert and information card.

Orthoceras appeared 500 million years ago, becoming extinct during the Devonian period 385 million years ago. The name means "straight horn", referring to the characteristic long, straight conical shell. The preserved shell is all that remains of this ancestor of our modern-day squid. Found fossilized n marine rock, especially limestone. These were discovered in the Atlas Mountain range of southern Morocco. They have been discovered up to 14 feet long.
