Tachi & JinTachi Swords
Historically, the tachi sword featured a cord for carrying it edge down attached to the belt or sash, as opposed to the katana, which was carried thrust through the belt edge up. It was used primarily on horseback, where it was able to be drawn to efficiently cut down enemy foot soldiers. The tachi fell out of favor to the katana around 1600.
JinTachi swords are longer than average swords with a reverse curved handle. They have been popularized in anime books and shows.
